Other Ministries

The "mission" of Pastor Oscar Dorantes goes far beyond those more
"dramatic" efforts already covered on this website;  the Boys' Shelter
in Merida, VIM, and his workteam programs.

It should be remembered that one of the most important aspects of his
ministry is the establishing and nurturing of Protestant "seed" churches
across the Yucatan Peninsula.  In this respect, Oscar has been following
in Paul's footsteps ever since his ordination.

Even beyond this, the scope of Accion is broad, varied, and often - as is true in all third-world settings -  unpredictable.  It is true that much of the pastor's work is spontaneous and goes unnoticed.

Some random examples of this would be:

*  in-city or other transportation costs for those seeking medical
treatments in Merida

*  financial aid to those unable to afford prescribed medications or
medical supplies

*  temporary, emergency  in-city housing for indigent families of those
undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatments

*  answering off-the-street petitions for food and/or clothing assistance

*  hurricane and/or flood-relief to the Mayan villagers

*  emergency farm recovery in the form of seed corn, tools, etc

*  replacement of village homes lost to hurricanes or other disasters.

Virtually every day someone is directed to Oscar's office on Calle 66 for help of one form or another.  No true need ever goes unanswered if at all possible.  That is the definition of "mission" and these are but a few of Accion's quiet ministries to the people of the Yucatan.
